In Teichen, Seen und Flüssen, wo das Wasser unerwartet tief und dunkel ist, dort lauert sie auf ihre Opfer.
Stumm starrt sie durch das trübe Nass ans Ufer, grinsend bleckt sie ihre langen spitzen Zähne und krümmt erwartungsvoll die Klauen.
Übermütige Kinder und unachtsame Greise zieht sie zu sich herab auf den schlammigen Grund und füllt ihre Lungen mit fauligem Wasser.
Die Rusálka ist ihre Gevatterin, Flussnymphen kennen ihren Namen und die Loreley blickt wohlwollend auf sie herab.
Sie ist der kalte Tod am Grunde grüner Wellen.

In ponds, lakes and rivers where the water is surprisingly deep and dark, there she ambushes her victims.
Silently she stares through the murky waters at the shore; grinning, baring her long, pointed teeth and bending her claws in anticipation.
Unwary children and careless old fools she pulls down to the muddy ground and fills their lungs with putrid water.
Rusálka is her cousin, river nymphs know her name and Lorelei looks down on her favourably.
She is cold death at the bottom of green waves.
